A Personal Statement

Dear Principal,

I appreciate this opportunity you offered me to introduce myself, and I am glad to tell you my basic information and some experiences.

My name is Irene, I came to this beautiful world on a wonderful day in summer 2008. I am currently a year seven student in Harrow International School Beijing, which is a sixth grader in the American standard. In school I have some major subjects such as English, math, science, mandarin, geography, history, and also some minor subjects including computing, physical education, music, and art. At first glance my life is a great pile of choices! And my experiences -- some of them have been for academic study at school and others have been for my interests. Are all very different. I particularly like mathematics and science. These are the two most major, complex, and challenging subjects of all. I always see and wonder how everything is arranged and matched either mathematically or scientifically all around us. They are the two major elements that cover all processes and designs, and it seems to me that nothing seems to work without them. In the various activities I have participated in, I especially like playing the piano. In music, I can enjoy myself and separate myself from the world without thinking about any problems that will make me feel stressed. I took part in some piano competitions and I have won several gold medals. Though I was incredibly nervous when I was down stage waiting for the list of winners to be called out, I really felt content the moment I went on stage to receive my certificate. Piano not only brings me happiness, but also gives me confidence to do well. I also like ballet. A dancer expresses her joy in silence. It is the art of making the body move with the rhythm of the music. Sometimes I dance for fun or entertainment for the audience; sometimes I dance for my honor. Though I love both these activities, they often collide with each other. Sometimes I must give up my great chance of being the leading dancer of a show to compete in a piano competition; other times I stop everything in order to attend to an important dance occasion. I also like to watch movies and my favorite movie is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The wonderful plot of it is so touching and attractive. Before, I have not watched this movie nor the book, but just listening to others say, I thought, it is just a movie! As for fascination, I didn't know until today that this film was so striking. Just after watching the first few minutes, owl mail, I couldn't control myself. I couldn't wait to watch more. In the blink of an eye, this film was swallowed by me, but I haven’t enjoyed it yet! This is my little resume of my life until now. As I said, my life is full choices, some of which are school studies, others are made for my interests, such as piano and ballet. But after all, I have enjoyed my life very much, and I am full of hope every new day. Thank you for reading. Irene Zeng
