Submission for "Ocean Awareness" Competition

Global Warming is a severe problem, both for us as individuals and for the world. The methane we release in the air drifts up to the atmosphere and stays in there, making the atmosphere thicker and thicker. Due to this thickening, the atmosphere locks heat and makes the Earth hotter and hotter, eventually causing the ice caps to melt and the cold places on Earth to disappear. For me, I see the polar bears struggling on the tiny bits of ice. I also see the seals dying because they can find no place to settle on. The melting ice is really important—it means that the sea level will rise and we will drown from the huge floods of water.
In my point of view, Global Warming is causing the world to change dramatically. Though the impact on the people isn’t good, there are still good sides of it. Because of the extreme bad influence it gives us, humans have to protect the environment even more when the environment is still pretty “healthy”. Measures have been taken to stop things from getting even worse, and people have realized the problem, so all plans can be worked out pretty quickly. For example, the governments of many countries. Personally, I think all the terrorizing facts about Global Warming are true, but just a little bit exaggerated, because the people who know this have to make people afraid to let them respect and save the planet.
Personal Reflection
When I saw this topic —“Ocean Awareness”, I thought of the climate change now in our everyday lives. To my surprise, the topic for us happens to be about climate change. I came up with the idea of doing it not just giving funny facts about it, I want to compare details of current climate change with events a few decades before using a sarcastic/humorous tone. People are used to reports and articles, but it’s all too serious for the public to really consider about. They might think that they are not connected to such a big problem, resulting in a large amount of people to neglect an event that need us to help. Through this humorous and unique way, people can get an idea about the other side of climate change, and relate it to other environmental problems before like deforestation.
I hope if I am a reader for my writing, I can get to know about this issue, and try to search for more information about it. In that way, not only will I be really, really proud of myself, but also this can be helpful because my readers might work to decrease temperature-changing damage like all the glaciers melting, even just a little bit. When that happens my writing can be considered as successful. I learned that when there are slowly growing problems, people are likely to consider other problems first. This is certainly not what we desire to see--because lots of times it’s the problems we ignore that evolve into the biggest ones.
Things are destroyed by slowly growing problems, the problems that erode our world as time goes on, I sincerely hope that what I wrote can give thoughts to more people.
